ORDER

The Wels Catfish, also known as the common catfish, is the largest freshwater fish in Europe. It belongs to the catfish family (Siluridae) and is found in rivers, lakes and valley pools with muddy or sandy bottoms.

Appearance:

It has an elongated, cylindrical body with a dark brown to black colour.
The belly is white to yellow.
The head is large and broad with whiskers around the mouth.
The dorsal fin is small and triangular.
It grows to a length of up to 5 metres and a weight of 350 kg, or more in rare cases.

Way of life:
