Wels Catfish is the biggest freshwater fish in Europe. It belongs to the Siluridae family. This fish can be found in rivers, lakes, reservoirs with muddy or sandy bottom.
Appearance:
- Wels Catfish has an elongated, cylindrical body with dark brown, almost black colour.
- The belly is white, almost yellow.
- Its head is big and wide with barbels around the mouth.
- The dorsal fin is small and triangular.
- It grows up to the length of 5 metres and weights 350 kilograms, in rare cases even more.

Reproduction:

- The female lays from 10 000 to 300 000 eggs into a male made nest, which is made from plants and tree branches.
- The male is taking care of the eggs up until they are big enough and become self-reliant.
- On average it lives for 50 years.
