Wels Catfish is the biggest freshwater fish in Europe. It belongs to the Siluridae family. This fish can be found in rivers, lakes, reservoirs with muddy or sandy bottom.

Appearance:

  • Wels Catfish has an elongated, cylindrical body with dark brown, almost black colour.
  • The belly is white, almost yellow.
  • Its head is big and wide with barbels around the mouth.

Reproduction:

  • The female lays from 10 000 to 300 000 eggs into a male made nest, which is made from plants and tree branches.
